Spiritual Rhythm: Being With Jesus Every Season Of Your Soul
By Mark Buchanan
“Longing For Heaven”
“I mean the heaven that, as Paul describes it, cannot be described: no eye has seen it, no ear heard it. It transcends imagination, just like life outside the womb defies the understanding of an unborn.”
I was having another difficult Monday. Since Monday is my day off, I have difficult Mondays for different reasons than most. Often, I am spiritually tired and Satan brings to my mind every weakness I have. It was a cold and cloudy day and I felt like staying in Bed. My daughter Grace was home from school, and she was watching old videos of my prom from high school and my prom. As I watched some of these old memories, my mood improved dramatically. As I watched those old memories, full of people, pets and places that are no longer in my life, I was reminded of good things. God has been so gracious and good to me and He has given me so many delightful people and experiences. All of it is a taste of Heaven.
I love how Buchanan talks about the restlessness we all have in our souls. This is eternity, which God has set in our hearts. Whenever we try and fill it with anything else, it fails to satisfy. I love how God meets us on those Mondays, when we are restless and frustrated and even depressed. He meets us with beautiful reminders of His goodness and His grace. And those reminders point us to Him who is the only one who can satisfy our souls.
Do you long for heaven? What blessings in your life remind you of God’s goodness? How does longing for heaven helps us persevere through life’s struggles?
